ART IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD
Every child should be given the opportunity to express themselves in
drawing, painting, and creating. This does not mean that we should
try to make professional artists out of our children. It simply
means that whatever path is taken, your child will be happier and a better
citizen if they learn to express themselves freely with pencil and brush.
The average child's life is a great deal more vivid than the average
adult's. Children are more sensitive and more alive to their
environment. When children experience things so vividly and fully,
it is natural for them to express themselves, to celebrate their everyday
experience through some medium. Give a child crayons and paper and
they will not ask questions. They will make drawings.
Expression is a controlled activity involving the selection and
organization of materials and past experiences and their fusion with
present situations to create new forms. The development of
expressive power increases sensitivity and sharpens the perceptive
faculties. The ability to express oneself is in itself important to
happiness.
It becomes apparent, then, how desirable it is to cultivate the natural
sensitivity and freedom of expression the child possesses. To cultivate
them not as training for a special field but as enriching of personality
extending into all fields.
MY EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CONCEPTION OF JEN'S CREATIVE KIDS
I graduated from Curry College
with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I
also had an art concentration as a
minor. I am O.C.C.S.,
First Aid, and C.P.R certified.
My teaching experience includes
working in preschools, daycare; elementary schools, baby-sitting,
nannying, and developing after
school enrichment programs. I
have found that my
ability to communicate, understand, and engage children has been the
driving force behind my success
with children.
I decided to open Jen's Creative
Kids when I realized that the
best part of my day was planning
and implementing the arts and crafts lessons for my
teaching job. Reading children a book or working with crafts, I
noticed that I was giving the
children the best part of myself
and that the children would pick up on this and join in the excitement.
I believe in open-ended
curriculum, learning through hands on experiences, and positive
reinforcement or encouragement. I
believe that all children are creative in their own unique way and that
creativity will expand a child's mind.
I look forward to creating with
your child.
